The joys of insurance verification

You wouldn’t believe the lengths some people go to avoid a copay! Just yesterday, I had a patient insist their insurance was ‘definitely active’ only to find out it expired last month. Sometimes, I think my job is less about billing and more about detective work. Anyone else have wild stories from the verification trenches?

But it’s hilarious how some patients treat their insurance like an ‘choose your own adventure’ book! I’ve had folks try to use their old cards as if they’re still valid. Ever had someone try to bargain with you like it’s a garage sale?

, I totally get what you mean — i once had a patient argue that their insurance was still good because they hadn’t received a cancellation notice. It’s like, c’mon, it’s not a gossip column; you can’t just hope for the best.
